UP TET Syllabus 2025–26 (English)

The Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UP TET) is conducted annually by the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board (UPBEB) for recruitment of teachers in primary (Class 1–5) and upper primary (Class 6–8) schools. The online application for UPTET 2025 will be released soon, and the exam is scheduled for January 29 & 30, 2026.

UPTET consists of two papers:

Candidates who wish to teach both levels must appear in both papers.


UPTET 2025–26 Exam Pattern

  • Mode of Exam: Offline (Pen & Paper)
  • Type of Questions: Objective (Multiple Choice)
  • Number of Questions: 150 per paper
  • Marks: 1 mark per question, total 150 marks per paper
  • Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes (150 minutes)
  • Negative Marking: None
  • Language: Hindi & English

UPTET Syllabus 2025–26 – Detailed Topics

1. Child Development and Pedagogy

  • Primary Level (Class 1–5):
    • Concept of growth and learning, inclusive education
    • Understanding children with special needs
    • Learning and pedagogy: teaching methods, evaluation of language & mathematical skills
  • Upper Primary Level (Class 6–8):
    • Child development, teaching and learning processes
    • Inclusive education, guidance and counseling
    • Study and teaching methods for upper primary students

2. Language I – Hindi (Compulsory)

  • Primary Level:
    • Reading comprehension, Hindi alphabet (vowels & consonants), phonetics
    • Sentence formation, punctuation, synonyms, antonyms, homonyms
    • Grammar: gender, number, tense, prefixes, suffixes, tatsam/tadbhav, compound words
    • Idioms & proverbs, literary devices, famous poets & writers
  • Upper Primary Level:
    • Advanced grammar: nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, voice, sentence types
    • Comprehension, word formation, compound words, idioms, literary devices
    • Teaching methodology: grammar in teaching, language acquisition, classroom challenges

3. Language II – English / Urdu / Sanskrit

  • Reading comprehension, grammar basics: nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, tenses
  • Sentence construction, active & passive voice, question formation
  • Vocabulary, homophones, antonyms, synonyms
  • Teaching methodology for language development

4. Mathematics

  • Primary Level:
    • Number operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), LCM & HCF, fractions & decimals
    • Percentage, profit & loss, simple interest, geometry, area & perimeter
    • Teaching methodology for math: concept understanding, error correction, remedial teaching
  • Upper Primary Level:
    • Number system, simplification, ratio & proportion, percentages, algebra, statistics & data interpretation
    • Geometry, time & work, speed & distance, banking and financial math
    • Pedagogical aspects of teaching mathematics

5. Environmental Studies / Science & Social Studies

  • Primary Level:
    • Family, food, health & hygiene, plants & animals, environment, local business, transportation
    • Rivers, mountains, forests, oceans, festivals, administrative system
    • Environmental protection and society’s role
  • Upper Primary Level:
    • Science: living & non-living things, human body, nutrition, health, electricity, magnetism, motion, energy, light, sound
    • Social studies: history, civics, geography, environmental science, home science, physical education, music, gardening
    • Teaching methodology for EVS, Science & Social Studies

UPTET Certificate Validity

  • Now lifetime validity for UP TET certificate. Previously it was valid for only 5 years.
  • Once qualified, candidates are exempt from retaking the exam.

    → No negative marking.
  2. In which languages is the paper conducted?
    → Hindi & English. Candidates can choose their preferred language.
  3. Duration of UP TET Exam:
    → 2 hours 30 minutes (150 minutes)
